Do’s and Don’ts if you want to lose weight the healthy way!

So recently I published an article about how you can lose weight and get rid of your belly fat and I have since then skimmed the article, to see if there was anything more I could have told you. And there was...

Therefore, I decided to make this article which includes a little less specialist knowledge and more short key points about what you should definitely NOT DO when trying to lose weight in a healthy way and what you definitely SHOULD DO! Let’s start with the DO’S!

DO eat Carbohydrates and Fats!

For some reason there are people who have made Low-Carb Diets, No-Fat Diets and other (in my opinion) crazy diets!

Why cut out two of the most important nutrients, just to lose weight, when you can keep eating them and still lose weight?! I believe in eating a healthy diet where Protein, Complex Carbohydrates, Good Fats, Vitamins and Fiber all are equally important. Yes, you should exclude Simple Carbs like candy, chocolate, ice cream and sugar in general from your diet, if you’re trying to lose weight, and yes you should also exclude Bad Fats like chips, processed foods, junk food, deep-fried foods and so on. But you should definitely eat a lot of Complex Carbs and Good Fats coming from foods like rye bread, crisp bread, dark bread, wholemeal spaghetti, olive oil, nuts, avocado and so on. So DO eat Carbs and Fats!

DO eat foods rich on Fiber!

Even though I have never been obese, I can still imagine how difficult it must be trying to lose weight and especially because of one thing: CRAVINGS! Even though I feel like I am in pretty good shape I can still have cravings many times every day! So what about people trying to lose weight?! :O

Well! I have a proposal and that proposal is FIBER! Why is that? That’s because Fiber makes you feel full for a longer time which in return will do what for you? It will make cravings much rarer! Therefore, DO eat Fiber! Fiber comes in many forms, but the foods I most often get my Fiber from is broccoli and other vegetables, almonds and sometimes peas and berries. You can also get a lot of Fiber from eating cauliflower, sweet potatoes, onions and different seeds.

DO make your food eye-catching!

One thing that often kills a healthy diet, is the fact that the food you prepare for yourself doesn’t catch your eye! When you are trying to turn your eating habits from unhealthy to healthy, you have to make your food delicious and interesting! If you are obese, chances are that you are used to eating stuff that looks VERY good for the eye and tastes GREAT when you put it in your mouth, and therefore your healthy diet needs to make up for all that unhealthy food that you have chosen to quit eating! So how do you do that? By making your food colorful and welcoming! Use a lot of different vegetables and fruits in your salads, search for delicious and healthy recipes on the internet or in a cookbook! Just do something to make your meals interesting and something you actually want to eat because it looks and tastes good, not just because you have to eat it, because your diet says so. It’s about making it a lifestyle that you can live with, without it affecting your mood in a bad way. So be creative! That’s gonna make a healthy diet so much easier to adhere to!

DO allow yourself to have a cheat meal every once in a while!

The thing that most often makes people give up on their diet, is the fact that they forget to reward themselves! Losing weight and burning fat doesn’t mean that you have to cut out all the sugar treats and junk food of your life completely! In fact, that is why most people often can’t stick to a healthy lifestyle in terms of nutrition! In my opinion, you should eat healthy at least 6 days a week and then on the 7th day you can enjoy a little candy bar or a little bag of chips. Just don’t eat too much! Eat a little bit and very rarely! That’s called balance :)

DO at least 30 minutes of exercising 3 times a week!

If you want to speed up the process of losing weight or getting rid of your belly fat, I suggest you combine the previous four DO’S with good ooooold exercising! There is nothing that burns fat better than doing that! So DO exercise at least 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes if you want to speed up your progress! You can work out, you can run, you can walk. Just do some sort of exercising!

DON’T starve yourself!

I don’t think I need to say much about this one, but seriously! If you want to lose weight and burn fat in the healthiest way, I guarantee that you won’t be doing that by starving yourself! So many bad things happen in the body when you starve yourself! Your body needs food in order to fuel the immune system, to prevent muscle break down, to give you energy, to make your mood stay high and positive and much, much more! So DON’T starve yourself! It’s unhealthy and dangerous.

DON’T rush things!

If you want to lose weight the fastest way (yet still healthiest way), you should NOT rush things by cutting too drastically in your calorie intake! This is a little bit the same as the starvation, but not as serious though, BUT STILL SERIOUS! You should not eat significantly much less than you are used to, if you want to lose weight. Of course you have to eat a little less calories each day, but not EXTREMELY MUCH LESS! The body needs time to adapt to the changes you are forcing it to undertake, when changing your diet from shitty (unhealthy), to pretty (healthy). It’s just like training! Progress too fast and you will fall and fail. We don’t want to fail, so DON’T rush things!

DON’T go shopping when you are hungry!

This one I heard Steve Cook say a long time ago in one of his videos and boy oh boy! Is it true!? Yes it is! I don’t live by myself yet, but I have been doing grocery shopping before, and I KNOW IT IS A BAD IDEA TO DO IT, IF YOU ARE HUNGRY! You go to the food store thinking to yourself “Man I’m just gonna rip all the healthy stuff from the shelves!”, - 20 minutes later – you leave the store with french fries, ice cream, chips and an already opened Marabou Chocolate Bar in your hands (I wonder who ever did that).

It just never works man! Don’t challenge fate and especially never when it involves your diet!

So DON’T shop on an empty stomach! Rule of thumb!

DON’T make your slimming period an 8-12-week task and then return to your old lifestyle again!

One thing I have seen a ton of times is that many people tend to think that eating healthy is only part of their 8-12 weeks’ diet plan. WHAT THE FUCK?! You finish a diet with great results and NOW YOU CELEBRATE IT WITH A FUCKIN’ BEER IN YOUR HAND?!?! DUDE! Losing weight and getting rid of belly fat shouldn’t just be an 8-12 weeks’ process, but rather the start of a new and healthy lifestyle that will last for the rest of your life! Why even in the first place decide to lose weight if all you want to do after your slimming period is to celebrate your weight loss with what made you fat in the first place?! It makes NO sense to me. So therefore I say: DON’T return to your old lifestyle after you have lost weight! Make healthy dieting your new lifestyle!

I hope you found these DO’s and DON’Ts useful! :)

Remember, it is all about making it a lifestyle, not a short change before you return to your old lifestyle. Be healthy man!

Best regards!
